Additional solicitor general (ASG) Harin Raval’s resignation following differences with the Attorney General GE Vahanvati over the CBI stand before the SC in the coalgate probe is only a manifestation of lack of trust and co-ordination between the top law officers of UPA II.

Raval becomes the fifth law officer to resign since July 2011 when solicitor general Gopal Subramanium resigned in protest against government’s decision to appoint a private lawyer to represent communications minister in the 2G case hearing in the SC.
Though Raval said he sent his resignation to the law minister on Tuesday evening, a day after he shot off a letter accusing Vahanvati of making him the scapegoat in the coalgate proceedings, ministry sources said the senior lawyer’s position became untenable after he told the SC on March 12 that CBI did not share its status report.CBI director contradicted Raval in his affidavit, saying the draft report was shared with the law minister and two officers of PMO and coal ministry.
