The victim, identified as Jonathan Joseph Fernandes - a resident of Mumbai's Vikhroli, was visiting his pilot friend Hitesh Mahashay's flat in Rohini Sector 7 when the incident took place, said BS Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer).

"The incident came to light at 12.35am after we received a call from Saroj Hospital where the victim was rushed by his friends after he fell from the seventh floor of the building. He was under the influence of alcohol," said DCP Jaiswal.

After having completed a pilot's course from the US, police said, Fernandes was preparing for examinations conducted by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to procure a valid pilot's license to fly in the country.

He was currently putting-up at a rented accommodation in northwest Delhi's Multan Nagar area with three of his friends and had enrolled himself in a Paschim Vihar coaching institute for the same.

DCP Jaiswal said the body had been sent to the Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem examination and the case was being probed from all possible angles.

In a similar incident, a 40-year-old man committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of a west Delhi mall on Saturday night.

Police said Rajnish (40), an event management company executive and a resident of south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, jumped from the fourth floor of West Gate Mall at Rajouri Garden owing to depression.

"He was rushed to Deed Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. A 12-page suicide note, in which he states that he is taking the step on his own accord and that no one besides himself should be held responsible for his death, was recovered from him," an officer said.
