While the female applicants may have lost out to their male counterparts in terms of quantity, they are definitely ahead in the race to corner seats in some of the best DU colleges. A statistical analysis of the common pre-admission forms has thrown up this result.

“The male female break up in the different percentage slabs clearly indicates that there are more boys among low scorers. The quality of female candidates is definitely better,” said Deputy Dean Students’ Welfare Gurpreet Singh Tuteja on Friday.

Sample this: Among candidates who have applied to BA (Honours) and B.Com courses, about 156 girls have scored above 95 per cent. Only 67 boys have made it to this section. In the 90-per-cent-and-above slab there are 2,656 females and 1,306 males.

Girls emerge on top even among candidates who have applied for B.Sc.(H) Physics, B.Sc.(H) Chemistry, B.Sc.(H) Electronics, B.Sc.(H) Polymer Science. In this category, the number of low scoring female candidates is outnumbered by boys. The 60-to-70 per-cent slab has 2,088 girls and 3,247 boys.
