The annual winter carnival organised by the ICS/IAS Officers Wives Association (IASOWA) on Saturday proved to be the perfect weekend outing for Delhiites who came out in droves to enjoy themselves with their friend and families. The bright sun on a wintry afternoon added to the air of celebration.

Organised at the Palika Services Officers Institute, the carnival was inaugurated by Salma Ansari, wife of Vice-President Hamid Ansari.

The carnival, in its fourth year now, has come a long way. “It was during one of the routine association meetings that we hit on the idea of having a carnival. We started from a scratch but it has caught on since then. This time we have 73 stalls,” said Jaya Chandrasekhar, president, IASOWA.

From mouth licking chaat to Hyderabadi biryani, paintings, trinkets made by inmates of Tihar jail to students from Amity University playing music, wine tasting session and flower arrangement competition, quiz show and painting competition for the youngsters — the carnival had something to entertain everybody. “My kids are having a gala time participating in all the games and quiz contests. The weather is also fabulous. It’s a perfect family outing,” said Akansha Sinha who had come all the way from Pragati Vihar to the carnival.

The brain behind the event, Jaya Chandrasekhar added, “The idea of hosting this carnival is to bring together people from all walks of life to enjoy. The purpose is not to generate money. Whatever money we make is used to fund the social work done by the IASOWA.
