Women's reservation has created a situation in which 150 councillors may lose their seats. These councillors have stopped turning up for the meetings.

The House budget sessions started on January 31 and less than 60 of the 272 councillors attend the sessions every day.

Seeing the abysmal attendance, the budget meeting for February 4 has been cancelled.

On Wednesday, the chairman and deputy chairman of standing committee did not turn up for the first half of the meeting. Seeing the dwindling attendance, punctual councillors have urged the MCD to make attendance compulsory.

"The House should pass a resolution making attendance compulsory, since the dignity of the House is at stake. What is the point of carrying forward a budget if councillors do not want to attend it," said Malti Verma, BJP councillor from Naraina. Congress councillors also supported the suggestion.

Also, councillors are not showing interest in developmental work.
