Autorickshaw driver tries to save girl, shot at

A 38-year-old autorickshaw driver was allegedly shot at by two bike-borne assailants when he tried to stop them from eve-teasing a girl at a bus stop in a northeast Delhi Bhajanpura area. HT reports.

A 38-year-old autorickshaw driver was allegedly shot at by two bike-borne assailants when he tried to stop them from eve-teasing a girl at a bus stop in a northeast Delhi Bhajanpura area.

The incident took place at Bhajanpura bus stop around 9.30pm on Saturday.

The victim, Ajay Kumar Anand, is undergoing treatment at the St. Stephen’s Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.

The police have registered a case of attempt to murder and are looking for the culprits.

A senior police officer said Anand lived with his family at lane No.1 in Bhajanpura. On the fateful night, he went to the bus stop to buy a packet of tobacco. “He was near the bus stop when he saw two bikers molesting a girl, who was waiting for a bus. They were offering her a ride on their bike and insisted that they would drop her home. Seeing the girl in trouble, Anand asked the bikers to leave,” the officer said.

“An argument ensued between Anand and the miscreants. Soon, a scuffle broke out between them. One of the assailants took out a pistol and fired twice at Anand. A bullet hit Anand in the abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital, while the assailants fled on their bike,” he added.
