Delhi government is likely to impose a penalty of Rs 55 crore on DS Constructions, the agency constructing the Barapullah elevated road.
Inspecting the road project on Wednesday Delhi public works department minister Rajkumar Chauhan said the government has already warned the company for its failure to complete the construction of two slip roads connecting the elevated road with Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
To be completed by December 2010, the two slip roads have already missed at least three missed lines. PWD officials said the contractor has now promised to complete the exit carriageway by August and the entry carriageway by October this year.
“A penalty of 10% of the total cost of the first phase of the project — R550 crore — may be imposed on the company for further delays. However, we have been assured that both the slip roads will be ready by August and October this year,” Chauhan said.
Chauhan said the government was now working on the project to further extend the road on west — up to AIIMS — and east — up to Mayur
Vihar — in second and third phase of construction, respectively.

{{/usCountry}}The extension of the road up to AIIMS is likely to cost R425 crore. Chauhan said they are likely to get the cost estimate sanctioned from the cabinet very soon.
The PWD department will soon carry out a study to further extend the road on the eastern side up to Mayur Vihar.
The extension across the Yamuna would drastically reduce the travel time between east and south Delhi, Chauhan said.
