The two-year-old battered baby continues to remain critical but stable even 24 days after undergoing treatment in the neurosurgery intensive care unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences' (AIIMS) Trauma Centre.
"Her condition remains the same. She is still having difficulty in breathing and needs support of the ventilator. The infection in blood, however, has reduced significantly. Her lungs and brain are still affected though and need close monitoring. The medicines are partially working, which is a good sign," said a doctor at the trauma centre.
The baby was brought to the hospital on January 18, with severe head injuries, broken arms, bite marks over the body and cheeks branded with hot iron. Doctors had to perform a life-saving brain surgery immediately after her admission.
Two more surgeries were performed later to drain out fluid that was getting collected in her brain. Tracheostomy was also conducted to by-pass the obstructive airway and doctors claim she will have to live with it for some time even after her recovery.
"We are conducting culture reports on everyday basis to track the level of infection in her body. Once the reports come negative and we are assured that there is no infection, we will perform a surgery to create a permanent passage to drain out the brain fluid," said the doctor.

{{/usCountry}}The forensic department of the hospital has taken the baby's sample for DNA profiling to establish her parentage.
Experts also confirmed that the bite marks found on her body were that of a human being.
