The body of a 23-year-old BBA final-year student was found hacked into pieces on the railway tracks in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Saturday afternoon.
The family members of the victim, identified as Paras Bhasin, have alleged that he was murdered by his wife’s family, who were opposed to their relationship. They also said that the family was well-connected. They alleged that Bhasin's father-in-law had been threatening him for the past few days.
But the police said it seemed to be a case of suicide. They believe that Bhasin jumped in front of a speeding train. His body was found in eight to 10 pieces within a kilometre of the railway tracks. The police have, however, begun investigating into his family’s allegations.
Bhasin’s right hand bore a tattoo ‘SHILIY’, which his family members say is his wife’s name. Alleging foul play, his family members, relatives and friends on Sunday afternoon gathered outside the Anand Vihar railway police station to demand a probe into the matter. They raised slogans against the Delhi Police and alleged they were trying to protect Bhasin’s in-laws.
“Paras and his girlfriend secretly got married at an Arya Samaj Temple. They had been together for the past five years. The girl’s father owns three Reebok stores in Delhi. He was opposed to their relationship as our family is financially weaker than them,” said Bhasin’s father Sanjeev, a property dealer in Tagore Garden.
According to the victim’s sister, Surbhi Verma, Bhasin’s father-in-law had been threatening to get him killed if he did not stay away from his daughter. “Three days ago, they had called him to their Ghaziabad residence for a talk where they had threatened him that they will get him hacked into pieces if he continued with his relationship with their daughter,” said Verma.

{{/usCountry}}On Saturday, around 3.30 pm, Bhasin got a call and rushed out of the house without informing anyone of his plans. “At 4.26pm, we got a call telling us that his body was lying in pieces on a railway track in Pandav Nagar. The caller, who refused to identify himself, called himself our well-wisher and made at least 15 calls from two different numbers,” said the victim’s brother-in-law Karan Verma.
He also said that it was absurd that Bhasin would travel such a long distance to commit suicide.
