The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is considering creating a special fund for maintenance of infrastructure created especially for the just concluded Commonwealth Games.

“A number of our projects were executed under Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) module and we will ensure that the private firms maintain them properly," said Deep Mathur, director press and information, MCD.

“The MCD commissioner has already directed that the same level of cleanliness should be maintained. The quality that we have maintained during Games will become part of our culture.”

The city underwent a number of beautification projects under the BOT module, which means their maintenance would be done by the private firm.

"For the waterless urinals, we are roping in private firms. Considering advertisement is allowed on the structure of these urinal blocks, the private firms will make sure that they are kept clean," added the official.

"We have already covered 45 roads and will be taking up more. In South Delhi, for instance, a number of stretches are not connected and thus watering them becomes a problem," said a senior MCD official.

The civic agency has also got hold of 'jet patchers' that will be used to make the damaged patch smooth instead of relaying the entire stretch.

"We have the latest technology so we will use it to maintain these roads. Also, a number of roads have been constructed recently so they will be covered under the contract period in case any repair is required," said a senior MCD official.
