Being called terrorist depressing, IM suspect tells court

An inmate of Tihar Jail — who is suspected to be an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative and is facing trial for his alleged role in setting up an illegal arms factory just outside the Capital — has informed a Delhi court that he was “depressed” at being taunted and called a terrorist by his prison inmates. He has also pleaded before the court to shift him to a high-security ward.

An inmate of Tihar Jail — who is suspected to be an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative and is facing trial for his alleged role in setting up an illegal arms factory just outside the Capital — has informed a Delhi court that he was “depressed” at being taunted and called a terrorist by his prison inmates. He has also pleaded before the court to shift him to a high-security ward.

The accused Abdur Rahman moved the application before additional sessions Judge Reetesh Singh stating that he had not been kept in the high security ward like another co-accused in the same case.

The court has asked the Tihar Jail superintendent to file a report on the application on August 7.

In his plea, Rahman has also referred to an alleged assault on suspected IM operative Fasih Mahmood, who was deported from Saudi Arabia in 2012 for his alleged involvement in terror acts, inside the Tihar prison.

“So there is a request to the court to look into the seriousness of the matter and grant permission to shift the applicant to a high security ward keeping in view his safety and security,” he said.
