Bill Gates to receive Indira Gandhi Peace Prize today

Microsoft founder Bill Gates will receive the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development in New Delhi. The award will be received on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has been providing grants for public health activities, notably in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention and communication.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates will receive the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development in New Delhi on Saturday.

The award will be received on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has been providing grants for public health activities, notably in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention and communication.

The Gates Foundation started operations in India in 2003 and has committed over 200 million dollars to HIV prevention in India, its largest commitment to the campaign in any country.

There are 2.47 million persons in India living with HIV, equivalent to approximately 0.36 per cent of the adult population.
