The two bills seeking to change the name of state and the language were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday by Home Minister P Chidambaram.

The legislations -- the Orissa (Alteration of Name) Bill and the Constitution (113th Amendment) Bill -- came in the wake of resolutions passed unanimously by the Orissa Assembly in August 2008 and forwarded to the Centre in December the same year.

While the name of the state would be changed when the first bill is adopted, the other bill will amend the Eighth Schedule to make necessary changes regarding the name of the language.
