Upping its ante, BJP on Monday announced a series of agitations to protest the "treatment meted" out to its two senior leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley at Jammu airport, including hunger strike by former party President Rajnath Singh.

Hours after Swaraj and Jaitley were detained at the Jammu airport and prevented from entering the city to join the Ekta Yatra, Rajnath Singh sat on hunger strike which will be continued till the morning of January 26.
The party will also hold nationwide protests at the district level, beginning on Tuesday to protest the "violation of democratic rights" of the senior leaders, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.
On the Republic Day on Wednesday, BJP workers will take to the streets holding tricolors as a mark of protest against the government's behaviour, Prasad said.
Asked whether the events could be compared to the days of Emergency, the BJP spokesman said, "even during those days, protests were allowed and leaders of the level of Jaitley and Swaraj were not detained in such a manner."
