While the BJP-led MCD has often claimed to be totally against unauthorised constructions in the city, the party has fielded three candidates who have had notices and court cases of illegal construction slapped against them.

Ravinder Gupta, candidate from Karol Bagh, has been accused of illegally covering a basement beyond permissible limits. He had also allegedly refused to demolish the illegal portions. Rajan Tewari, its candidate from Naraina, is also allegedly involved in a case surrounding a controversy.
Jagdish Mamgain, chairman of MCD’s works committee who has resigned from the BJP over ticket distribution, has accused Rajesh Bhatia, a BJP contestant from Rajinder Nagar, of being booked by MCD four times for illegal constructions.
“BJP candidate from ward No. 149 Rajesh Bhatia and his family own three hotels in Old Rajender Nagar which was illegally constructed. The MCD has booked all the three buildings,” Mamgain added.
Mamgain also said that the BJP should not have fielded candidates who have been accused of illegal construction.
“MCD claims to take the matter of illegal constructions very seriously but at the same time the ruling party is fielding candidates against whom the agency had sent notices of illegal constructions,” he said.
