BJP leaders on Saturday met President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking the removal of Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on the grounds of deteriorating law and order situation in the city.

A delegation — led by Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel, leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly VK Malhotra, BJP national secretary Aarti Mehra, former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta and other senior MLAs — demanded dismissal of the Delhi government on grounds of it failing to ensure the security of its citizens.
“We have asked the President to consider dismissing the government under Section 239-AB of the constitution, where he can dismiss a government for non-performance,” said Goel.
“The President has assured us that he will speak to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on the issue,” he added.
Goel further said that the chief minister herself asked for the removal of Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar over deteriorating law and order situation, which makes it evident that her government has lost control over its functions.
