The Congress party launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh Parivar, calling it the Bharatiya Jinnah Party, on Thursday.

“In 1915, the Sangh parivar proclaimed Hindus and Muslims are separate nations, sowing the seeds of Partition,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said. “We all know their views on Gandhi. That day’s anti-Gandhi forces are today’s pro-Jinnah forces,” he added.

Singhvi was reacting to comments by BJP leader Jaswant Singh at the launch of LK Advani’s My country, My Life on Wednesday. “Book release functions must not become political bashing sessions. If you berate the Congress, you must get your facts and history right,” he said. Singhvi said Singh had attributed Jinnah’s turning to the Muslim League to the Congress. “After Advani’s defence of Jinnah’s secularism, we now have Jaswant Singh’s remarks,” he said.

“Where is their footprint in India’s freedom movement? All they did was spit venom against large groups of this country,” he added.
