Congress on Wednesday accused BJP of acting as an "irresponsible" opposition and "playing politics" for its statement that the government's response to China's remarks on Prime Minister's visit to Arunachal Pradesh was "timid".

"The response of BJP is like that of an irresponsbile opposition party," Party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said.
BJP had earlier termed the government's response to China's remarks on the Prime Minister's visit to Arunachal Pradesh as "timid" and demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the entire gamut of India's relationship with that country.
Ahmed, however, said, "our foreign policy and our stand on Arunachal Pradesh is as per the national consensus to which all political parties agree. So, playing politics with established national policy at this juncture is unbecoming of a responsible political party."
At the same time, he maintained there is no harm in calling an all-party meeting.
"If the Prime Minister thinks so, he can call a meeting of all parties. But attacking a national policy for domestic politics is not good," Ahmed said.
A senior AICC functionary also said "the government has already responded to the issue. Congress stands by it. We agree with the views expressed by the government in this regard."
