BJP on Thursday moved the Election Commission seeking "appropriate" security cover to its leaders, including the party's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani, during the Lok Sabha poll campaign.

In a letter to the EC, the party said 26 of its leaders, including Chief Ministers, faced renewed threat to their lives in the present security scenario.
The letter sent by party's central office in-charge Shyam Jaju requested the EC to ensure that appropriate security cover be provided to its top leaders during the campaign.
It demanded security cover to party chief Rajnath Singh, senior leaders Murli Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh, Vinay Katiyar, Sushma Swaraj and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi among others.
"We felt the need to send such a letter to the Election Commission since the Model Code of Conduct has affected the regular security provision and we do not want to take any chances," a top party leader told PTI.
"This is a regular communication between the Election Commission and a national party and I don't think there is any need to declare these things in the public," he said.
