BJP to observe Black Day in response to Congress rally

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in response to the Congress’s rally supporting FDI, has announced that it would observe Sunday as a Black Day. The BJP has drawn a list of 14 spots where demonstrations and protest meetings will be held between 8am and 10pm.

BJP state unit president Vijender Gupta said senior leaders, including Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Vani Tripathi and Aarti Mehra, would lead protests in areas such as Kingsway Camp, Madhuban Chowk, Vikas Marg, Tilak Nagar Market, Kamla Nagar Main Market and New Ashok Nagar.

“By forcibly imposing FDI on India, the government at the Centre is cheating 120 crore people of the country. The government has not taken the approval of Parliament before allowing FDI in retail trade and the Delhi government is supporting the initiative that will lead to losses for the general public,” Gupta said.

He added that the Akhil Bharatiya Udhyog Vyapar Mandal and other trade organisations had agreed to support the protests against FDI and observing the day as Black Day.

In a separate move, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), in association with several organisations of retail stakeholders, will be holding a protest by putting to practice the Hindi adage “Bhains ke aagey been bajana (Singing a hymn to a buffalo is a waste)” at Jantar Mantar at 10.30am on Sunday. Senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi and leaders of other political parties will join the demonstration.
