While the opposition cornered Sheila Dikshit government on the issue of scarcity of water in the assembly on the first day of the budget session forcing three adjournments and complete wipe out of the Question Hour, thousands of party workers staged protests in the various parts of the city demanding immediate measures to improve water supply.

Leader of the Opposition Vijay Kumar Malhotra demanded an adjournment motion as soon as the budget session started. The BJP MLAs started sloganeering and stormed into the well of the house when the Speaker rejected the demand.

“There is no water anywhere in Delhi. While some areas get 5-10 minutes supply a large part of Delhi goes waterless. This is really a shame that the Capital city of India does not have water,” a BJP MLA shouted.

Moti Nagar MLA Subhash Sachdeva with his head shaved and wearing a robe with slogans written on it, held a unique protest.

The Opposition MLAs launched an attack on Dikshit when she stood up “to clarify” that at least two BJP MLAs admitted to having 24-hour water supply in their area.

Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta led a strong demonstration at Varunalaya, the headquarters of Delhi Jal Board, the agency that provides water to almost 97 per cent of Delhi.
