The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a Health Ministry’s proposal on the “Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Bill, 2010 that aims at improving quality of health services in the country.

Addressing mediapersons after the Cabinet meet, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said the law, after enactment by the Parliament, would come into effect initially in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim and all Union Territories. “We expect that other states would also adopt this legislation,” she said.
The minister said the main objective was to provide a legislative framework for the registration and regulation of clinical establishments in the country and improve the quality of health services by prescribing minimum standards of facilities and services provided by clinical establishments.
“This would permit categorisation and classification of different hospitals, clinics and health establishments depending on their geographical location as well as services offered,” she added.
