Car crushes morning walker

At 6.15 am, he was bleeding to death at the busy intersection under the Akshardham flyover after being crushed between an out-of-control BMW and a wall of the flyover.

Mahesh, Chauhan’s son, alleged that the police, “instead of rushing my father to the hospital, judged it better to take the occupants of the luxury car to the police station first”.

The police, however, said a PCR had rushed Chauhan to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Chauhan was reportedly urinating on a wall when “the speeding car, which had tumbled out of its driver’s control, crashed into him from behind and crushed him face-first into the wall,” the officer said.

Police said Raman Singhla, 27, a Dayanand Nagar resident, was reportedly driving the BMW. “Raman and his father Babu Ram were going to pick up his brother at the Ghaziabad Railway Station,” the officer said. Raman reportedly lost control of the car after colliding with some rocks about a 100 metres from the accident spot.

Chauhan’s family and acquaintances alleging police inaction blocked traffic for at least three hours. The jam was cleared only after additional DCP I (east) Delhi, I.B Rani visited the spot and pacified them.

Police said a case of rash and negligent driving had been registered against Raman.

“We have arrested him because he was behind the wheel and his co-passengers had nothing to do with the accident,” said I.B. Rani, additional DCP I (east) Delhi.
