Taking note of the printing error which appeared in set III of the mathematics question paper for Class X students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to award full marks to any candidate who attempted the question.

On Saturday, several students were upset over a misprint in question 19 of the third set. Many complained that they had wasted a lot of time solving the problem only to realise later that it had no solution.

“The expert committee has identified the error and decided that whosoever made an effort to solve the problem will get full marks assigned to that question,” said CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi.

Question 19 was compulsory one and carried three marks. It required the students to first construct a triangle, whose dimensions were given, and then construct another one similar to it. But the dimensions of the first one were wrong.

Joshi, however, made it clear that marks would not be awarded to all candidates who got set III, but only those who attempted the question 19 in that set.

She added, “I am glad the CBSE has admitted to the error and our efforts in solving the problem will not go waste.”
