Rejecting key UPA ally DMK's charge of inaction by the Centre on the Mullaperiyar row, Union shipping minister GK Vasan on Saturday said it was acting 'responsibly'.

"The Centre is taking necessary steps so that justice is done to both Tamil Nadu and Kerala and people can live in harmony," Vasan, a senior Congress leader, said in Chennai.
Vasan denied suggestions that the Centre was not working to resolve the issue, saying it was indeed acting responsibly, keeping in mind the need to ensure cordial relations between the two states.
His comments came a day after DMK president M Karunanidhi expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the dam issue by both the centre as well as the Tamil Nadu government.
Announcing a protest over the dam row, Karunanidhi had on Friday said, he was 'dissatisfied' with the centre for not taking any steps to find a solution over the issue, which has escalated in recent weeks.
Vasan said he was hopeful that an amicable solution would be found to the vexed issue.
