SLA stipulates maximum time a department should take to process a particular application. Any delay would attract penalty on the department head at the rate of Rs10 a day.

Senior Delhi government officials said the Centre has asked Delhi’s IT department to give a demonstration of the SLA project. Officials said the Centre might adopt the module.

Meanwhile, on Monday the IT department included few more services in the ambit of SLA, taking its number beyond 20. Starting with five services, Delhi government officials said they want to take the number to 40.

“We have included the police’s licencing department. Delhi police will now have to process the application to grant any kind of licence, except arms licence, within 45 days of the date of application,” a senior Delhi government official said.

Trade licenses issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council and registration of society are two more services included under the SLA. “The project has helped improve movement of files and clearance of applications in many departments. Driving licences are issued in just one day,” said an official.
