Controversial godman Chandraswami on Friday withdrew his petition in the Supreme Court challenging the around Rs 9 crore penalty imposed by the Enforcement Directorate in several FERA violation cases against him.

The counsel, appearing for Chandraswami, told a bench headed by justice Aftab Alam about his decision to withdraw the matter.
Earlier, on June 16, the apex court had turned down the plea of Chandraswami to extend the time and asked him to pay 9 crores.
The Enforcement Directorate had slapped the penalty in in seven cases against Chandraswami, his close aide Vikram Singh and his ashram, Vishwa Dharmayatan Sanstha.
The bench had turned down Chandraswami's proposal to extend the time in all cases by paying Rs 25 lakh as first tranche in four cases.
