The government on Thursday named senior bureaucrat Pulok Chatterji as the next principal secretary to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, replacing incumbent TKA Nair who has been appointed as the Prime Minister's advisor.

The appointments will come into effect from October 3.
As the PM's new advisor, Nair (a retired Punjab cadre IAS officer of the 1963 batch) will continue to be a Minister of State in the PM's Office till further orders, an official statement said.
HT had first reported the overhaul in the team of officers assisting the PM, on July 1. On July 25, HT had reported the decision to appoint Chatterji, a UP cadre IAS officer of 1974 batch, in place of Nair.
He joined the PMO on July 17 with secretary rank but without assignment. "His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or till further order whichever is earlier," the statement said.
