Child rights body asks for report on maid's plight

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken cognisance of the case of a 14-year-old domestic help whose employers allegedly dumped her at the RML Hospital in central Delhi after she suffered a grievous back injury in mid-October. HT reports.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken cognisance of the case of a 14-year-old domestic help whose employers allegedly dumped her at the RML Hospital in central Delhi after she suffered a grievous back injury in mid-October.

The NCPCR, in a letter to the Resident Commissioner, the secretary of the department of women and child development and the director general of police of the state of Odisha, among others, has demanded an interim report on the matter by November 11.

"The present condition of the victim and her destitute father at the RML Hospital, New Delhi, (should be) assessed through the OSD at Odisha Niwas ...and to submit an interim report in the matter to this Commission by 11.11.2011," states the said letter.

On November 7, HT had reported the plight of the victim from Odisha's Balasore district. She was found nursing a fractured spine at RML hospital's Gynaecology Ward.

She got injured due to repeated instances of harassment and physical abuse at the hands of a businessman couple who employed her 15 months ago.

The concerned departments, states the letter, are required to submit a detailed Investigation Report and Action Taken Report to NCPCR by November 21.
