A Delhi court has granted bail to a collection agency owner, whose agent made extortion calls to recover pending internet invoices. Additional sessions judge JR Aryan said, “A threatening call is alleged to have been received by the informant (complainant) and the call received by the daughter of the informant though was threatening, but no money pursuant to such threatening call was given.”

The police had arrested Gopal Bansiwal on February 6 following an FIR accusing him of making extortion calls to collect pending Airtel internet bills. Bansiwal owns Pearl Solutions, a recovery agency located in south Delhi.
Vijay Aggarwal, Bansiwal’s counsel, told the court that the accused could not be held responsible for his agents making threat calls, as one Rakesh Kaushal had called the complainant. “The police cannot arrest the collection agency owner as he is running a legitimate business,” he argued.
