Registering their protest against non-payment of salaries for the past four months, the DTC crew — hired by the corporation on contract in the past few months — reportedly parked their buses haphazardly at the Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) Millennium Park Depot and sat on a dharna in its lawns.

While the drivers and conductors called off their strike in the afternoon following assurance from senior DTC management, it was the bus commuters that bore the brunt of the tussle between the management and contractual crew.

The strike crippled the public transport facility in some parts of Delhi during the first half of the day.

DTC sources said about 800 low-floor buses — both AC and non-AC — could not go out on the routes, affecting thousands of commuters in south and east Delhi.

The Millennium Park bus depot largely caters to bus routes in south and east delhi. A large number of buses plying on Outer Mudrika and Teevra Mudrika routes also originate from Millennium Park bus depot.

“I waited for more than an hour and finally had to go back home and get my car to reach office,” said Pradeep Kapoor, a resident of IP Extension, who works at Delhi Cantonment.
