Cong dares UP to order CBI probe into Noida violence

The UP government has already rejected the Congress party's demand for a judicial inquiry into the incident.

“If the BSP government feels that everything is hunky dory then why don't they agree to a CBI investigation? Why don't they agree to a judicial enquiry? Why does Bhatta Parsaul still resemble a cantonment?” asked Congress spokesman Manish Tewari. “Why aren't journalists being given access to that place? Why is the NHRC team not being allowed to visit that place?” he went on to attack the UP government.

On its part, the Congress would keep up the heat on the Mayawati government over the farmers' issue given that the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled to be held next year. Tewari's statement gave a clear indication of the Congress strategy.

It was on Monday that Gandhi took an eight-member delegation of farmers from the violence-hit villages to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and complained him about the alleged "repression" on the farmers by the UP government and its police.

The BSP on its part was quick to dismiss the charges as “bundle of lies”.
