The venue for the meeting was the Ramjas College auditorium but it was withdrawn by the college authorities at the last minute.

Eleven DUTA executive members had earlier condemned its leadership’s decision to hold a meeting “unilaterally and without consultation.”

The members had also raised objections to the meeting being held on Sunday as it would set a precedent for colleges to disallow staff council meetings on other days.

But those members that organised the meeting are standing by their decision. “Eleven DUTA members cannot hold meeting to ransom. They are welcome to express their opinion but cannot be allowed to take away this opportunity from teachers to form a collective view on the four-year programme,” said Abha Dev Habib, DUTA member.

Meanwhile, DU vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh has also written to the empowered committee members to attend a session on foundation programmes at the same time as the GBM.
