Cops recreate crime scene at Nanda home

Police recreated the scene of crime at the bungalow of industrialist Anil Nanda where one of his employees- Janeshwar Sharma (45) was allegedly doused in petrol and set on fire on June 9, police said.

Police visited Nanda’s New Friends Colony Bungalow along with forensic experts. Before he succumbed to his burn injuries on June 16, Sharma had in a letter and in an interview before a television channel alleged that Nanda and two more men — Dhiraj Balani and Jeetendra Pandey — had poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

“We used a dummy subject to recreate the crime scene. First we sprinkled water on the subject and then splashed water on him from behind. In both cases the body was not fully immersed in the liquid so that it could sustain 80 percent burn injuries,” said a senior police officer.

Police said they were seeking expert opinion on Sharma’s autopsy report to decide whether the burn injuries were “self inflicted” or a case of “assault”.

Police said they have sent the water bottle (containing the petrol) recovered from the scene of crime to a forensic lab.

“The investigations have not moved an inch. No policeman has ever visited us,” said Yogesh Sharma, brother of the deceased.
