Court gives interim bail to suspended cop in kidney racket
A suspended policeman, accused along with six others of extorting over Rs 19 lakh from a close aide of kidney racket kingpin Dr Amit Kumar, was on Tuesday granted interim bail by a Delhi court to allow him to attend his nephew’s marriage ceremony.
“The interim bail is granted to accused Devender Kumar Malik on his furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of like amount to the satisfaction of the court concerned,” Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria said.
The court, however, asked the accused to surrender in court on March one.
The bail plea was opposed by the public prosecutor saying “it is a serious case and regular bail applications of other co-accused were pending in the Delhi High Court.”
The accused has sought interim bail on the ground that he has to participate in the marriage of his sister’s son at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on February 26.
Seven policemen including Malik had allegedly extorted Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upendra, an accused in the Gurgaon kidney racket, for letting him and his driver to go scot free after being picked up in January last year.
The policemen are booked under various sections of the IPC including 384 (extortion), 385 (putting persons in fear for extorting money), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 120B criminal conspiracy).

A communal clash that broke out in Karnataka's Kerur was due to 'personal issues' between the two sides, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Thursday, a day after violence erupted in the town over alleged eve-teasing. The situation in Kerur continues to be peaceful but tense, and a total of 18 people – from both the Hindu and Muslim communities – have been arrested. Overall, at least four people were injured in the clashes.
In a tragic incident, three people working in a chowmein factory in Gajapati district of Odisha died of asphyxiation on Wednesday night after they went to sleep while keeping the chowmein dryer machine turned on. Police officials in Gajapati said the three workers in the chowmein factory at Narayan Nagar of Mohana area had gone to sleep after putting the soggy chowmein noodles to dry in the chowmein dryer machine.
The Hebbal flyover in Bengaluru - known for its traffic congestion - has finally been picked up by city authorities, who have come out with a fresh set of rules. The advisory was announced by the Bangalore Traffic Police. The same goes for vehicles coming from KR Puram, Road and Tumakuru Road. Vehicles traveling on the airport road flyover can join the Hebbal flyover as usual.
