The pain of parking a car in Connaught Place is not likely to end anytime soon.

All the three multi-level parking lot projects at Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Shivaji Stadium will miss the much-feted deadline of the Commonwealth Games to be held in the Capital in October.
Work at Kasturba Gandhi Marg is yet to begin. “The Baba Kharak Singh Marg parking will be operational by January 2011 since a lot of mechanical work is still to be carried out. Shivaji Stadium parking will be made operational after the Games,” said NDMC spokesman Anand Tiwari. “These half-completed structures will look ugly,” said Atul Bhargava, president of New Delhi Traders’ Association.
The parking lot at Baba Kharak Singh Marg is being built on a Build Operate Transfer (BOT) basis and the construction work had begun as far back as October last year.
With the civic agency yet to seek clearance from the Archaeological Survey of India, the future of the parking lot at KG Marg also remains uncertain. The ASI sanction is necessary since the facility is coming up near Agrasen Ki Baoli, a protected monument.
