The Central Committee of the CPI (M) is expected to endorse the suspension of Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan and senior leader P Vijayan from the politburo, when it meets in the Capital for three days, beginning on Sunday.

A Central Committee (CC) member told
HT
that though the politburo decision was subject to CC approval, the latter is likely to ratify it. "We expect their (Achuthanandan and Vijayan) suspension to continue till March or April next year when the CPI (M) congress would be held,'' the member said. The CC is the highest decision-making body of the party.
The CPI (M) had suspended the two from the politburo on May 26 for criticising each other publicly on the issue of encroachments in Munnar. They were accused of spreading factionalism in the state unit. It was the first time in the history of the party that two senior leaders, members of the politburo, were suspended.
Both leaders, however, still continue to hold their other positions, including CC memberships.
