Custody of Jamia students extended

The judicial custody of five Jamia Millia Islamia law students, accused of gangraping a minor girl for over two months by keeping her in captivity, was on Thursday extended till January 16 by a Delhi court.

“The accused are remanded in 13 days of judicial custody. All the accused to be produced before the court on January 16 along with sixth accused (Prateek) in the case," Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Rao said.

The court on Wednesday had sent the sixth person arrested in the case to Tihar Jail in 14 days judicial custody to undergo identification test after he had agreed to it.

The police on December 4, 2012 had arrested Pulkit Chaudhary, Amandeep, Sharad Shekhar Tomar, Roopansu and Vikas Punia, all Jamia students, after a complaint was lodged at the Defence Colony police station in South Delhi on September 15 by the victim's mother.

The girl's mother had told the police that her daughter, who was studying in class XI, had not returned home after attending school on September 15.
