Seven customs officials and three individuals from the trade and industry segments were awarded ‘WCO Certificates of Merit’ for exemplary work in the area of Customs at the International Customs Day celebrations.

The event was organised at the National Museum on Thursday.
Referring to this year’s theme of the Customs day — ‘Knowledge, a catalyst for Customs excellence’ — by the World Custom Organisation (WCO), S Dutt Majumder, chairman, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) outlined the need for continuous knowledge upgradation as the key to meet the challenges of modern tax administration in the Indian economy.
“Unless we upgrade our knowledge skills, we cannot adapt to new business practices,” Majumder said.
He also released Customs Manual 2011 on the occasion. CBEC members SK Goel and Rajesh Dhingra, chief commissioner of customs, Delhi MC Thakur and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Salil Dhingra were also present at the function.
Presentation of commendation certificates was followed by a short cultural programme, in which Mohiniattam, Kathak and Odissi dances were performed.
