Chief minister Sheila Dikshit met PM Manmohan Singh in the evening and informed him that the Cabinet was preparing a reply to the allegations.

The report had indicted Dikshit and Delhi Lt-Governor Tejendra Khanna for irregularities in certain Games projects. In the hour-long meeting with the PM, Dikshit is believed to have explained the circumstances in which certain decisions were taken by the Delhi government to ensure timely completion of projects and expressed disappointment over making the probe panel’s report public. She expressed disappointment that her government’s views were not included in the report, said a Congress insider.

“I fail to understand what wrong did we commit? I did take personal interest in some projects as it was the need of the hour. We put in a lot of efforts to ensure that we hold the event successfully,” Dikshit told reporters in the Assembly.

The report says Khanna and Dikshit were responsible for a loss of Rs 1500 crore to the exchequer for delays in completion of projects. The two reports — on CWG Village and City Infrastructure—were made public a few days ago giving fresh ammo to the BJP as it also alleges Rs 254.10 crore as undue gains to contractors in the 19 CWG projects the panel studied.

Session over, MLAs gear up for match

As the Budget Session of Delhi Assembly was adjourned sine die three days early, the House was abuzz with jokes that actually the MLAs wanted to end the session early to go to Chandigarh on Wednesday for the much hyped India-Pakistan World Cup match. When asked, CM Sheila Dikshit joked, “I would love to go watch the match, but I don’t have tickets.”
