The move, initiated in a standing committee meeting on Monday, has got commissioner PK Gupta’s approval.

According to the north body’s leader of the House Mahender Nagpal, this policy will free the people of the area from the fear of corporation bulldozers razing portions of their homes.

“This is a pro-people scheme. People living in unauthorised regularised colonies, who have got their colony’s layout plan passed, can also avail of this self-assessment. If one has built an extra section or a room without sanction from the authorities or transgressed beyond the area, they now have a way out without facing demolition,” Nagpal said.

All you need to do is fill an application form that will contain two sets of plans.

When contacted by Hindustan Times, commissioner Gupta said there were many properties in the civic body’s jurisdiction which can be regularised through this scheme of self-assessment.

“Many were finding it difficult to get small, unauthorised portions of their homes regularised. With this policy and by paying some nominal charges, their lives will get easier,” Gupta said.
