The Delhi High Court has granted more time to the central government to find out what more can be done to reduce the noise level near the IGI Airport here.
After hearing a plea of the residents near the airport, the court said on October 20 that the Centre had failed to take any steps to curb the noise pollution.
The Centre had informed the court that no aircraft with noisy engines would be allowed to take off or land at the airport at night from November 1.
“With this rule coming into effect to reduce noise pollution from aircraft for the first time anywhere in the country, we are confident that the residents living in the vicinity of the airport will not have to face much problem,” said Additional Solicitor General AS Chandiok.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also issued a circular to this effect, following directions from the Delhi High Court.
“We have fixed the limits in airport zones at 105 decibels during day and 95 decibels during night,” Chandiok said.
