Five criminals who used to hire cabs from railway stations and bus terminals only to rob the drivers of their vehicle and other belongings have been arrested by the crime branch of the Delhi Police.

The carjackers were arrested on a tip-off from near the Majnu Ka Tila locality near Timarpur following investigation into a carjacking incident reported at the Alipur police station on June 6.
The inter-state criminals had been involved in several cases of carjackings reported at different police stations in Delhi and NCR in the recent past.
Apart from robbing the cab drivers of their vehicles, the criminals used to thrash them badly. Several victims were stabbed, others were wounded seriously during the robberies.
Amit alias Prem Singh, kingpin of the gang, Aman Sharma, Sushil Kumar, Ajay Kumar and Yogesh Kumar — all residents of Sonepat in Haryana — were arrested by the team of crime branch’s special operation squad (SOS) on Saturday.
Ravindra Yadav, additional CP (crime branch), said the police were investigating into a incident of June 6.
“In that sensational robbery incident, cab driver Santosh was attacked with a sharp weapon by four men who robbed him of his Maruti Eeco van, cash and other valuables.
They had dumped Santosh at an isolated place in outer Delhi,” said Yadav. He said they had hired the cab from Old Delhi Railway Station for Bakhtawarpur village in Outer Delhi.
Yadav said, according to the tip-off, Amit was to come to meet his gang members at the parking of Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila to plan another robbery.
