Delhi gets 4 lakh more voters in two months
A total of 810 candidates will be vying for the votes of more than 1.19 crore Delhiites in the December 4 Assembly elections. The number of registered voters in Delhi has gone up by more than four lakh since the last summary revision of voters lists on September 15.

The number of registered voters in Delhi has gone up by more than four lakh since the last summary revision of voters lists on September 15.
The last date for registration in the voters list for the Assembly elections was November 6. According to the final list, there are 1,19,32,067 voters in Delhi, with 66,11,362 male and 53,20,143 female voters. The figure was 1,15,11,036 after the summary revision in September.
"This is a big leap forward," said Shurbir Singh, Delhi's special chief electoral officer. Singh said that voters have shown huge interest in getting their names registered on the voters list, which is evident in the huge spike in the numbers in less than two months.
The number of candidates who will contest for these votes had come down from the initial figure of 1,110 to 900 after 210 nominations were rejected by the Delhi Electoral Office for various reasons. The final figure stands approximately at 810 after 90 withdrawals.
"There were many reasons, for rejection of nominations, including insufficient security deposit by candidates, not enough number of people to propose their nomination etc," Singh said.
Apart from a significant increase in the number of registered voters, this also includes the addition of 32,000 first-time voters in the age group of 18-19. The number of young, first-time voters is 3.4% of the total number of registered voters.
The highest concentration of first-time voters is in the Bawana constituency - totalling 9,996. The gender ratio is 805 female voters per 1,000 male voters across Delhi. The highest gender ratio is in the Tilak Nagar constituency.
