Saibaba leads the Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) that the police claim is a front organisation for the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Thursday’s search operation by a police team from Maharashtra’s Gadhchiroli led to the seizure of a hard disk, laptop, mobile phones, pen drives, etc., from Saibaba’s house.

“While he was not detained, all the equipment have been sent for forensic test,” a top source in a security agency told HT, indicating that they would bide their time till a solid case was made out against the DU professor.

The police were led to Saibaba’s door on the purported disclosures by two alleged overground workers of the CPI (Maoist) — Hem Mishra and Prashant Rahi, who were arrested in Chhattisgarh.

Saibaba told HT: “RDF is not even remotely connected to the Maoists. All these allegations are the result of whims and fancies of the agencies concerned.”
