Delhi Metro wins the praise of environmentalists for showing sensitivity towards conserving the city's greenery while carrying out construction activity.

After achieving a blemish-free record of always meeting project deadlines, Delhi Metro has won now the praise of environmentalists for showing sensitivity towards conserving the city's greenery while carrying out construction activity.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been prompt in its afforestation drive and has planted a greater number of trees than they cut while constructing Line II of the rail network.

"While we were supposed to plant ten trees for every single tree we cut, we did just that and more. In Line II, we planted ten trees ex-situ while one tree in-situ from where it was cut. DMRC has an ISO 1402 certification for environment protection," DMRC CPRO Anuj Dayal said.

The DMRC agreed to a realignment of Phase II of the Metro to save some of the ridge area coming under the axe after a meeting with city environmentalists and a Centrally Empowered Committee.

"The Metro alignment in Phase II was done so as to save maximum number of trees. We realigned and reduced the ridge area coming under the line," Dayal said.
