The black Hyundai Accent car was allegedly being driven by an inebriated man who has been arrested, the police said. This is the third accident of its kind on the Ring Road in the past week.

Eyewitnesses said the car was going over 100 kmph when it smashed into the rickshaws, on which the victims were sleeping. After the collision, the car climbed onto the pavement and hit an electric pole. It then turned turtle and skid on the road for over 30 metres.

The accused was identified as Mohammad Mohsin, 23, a resident of Inderpuri.

Sources said Mohsin was out on a joyride with two friends. The police recovered alcohol bottles and snacks from the car.

After the accident — which occurred at around 1 am in front of Inderlok Metro station — all three fled the accident spot.

The injured were rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital. Two of them were discharged after preliminary medical attention. The other four are currently under treatment.

A case of culpable homicide has been registered against Mohsin, said Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police (north). Police have impounded his vehicle.
