Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia on Tuesday said the government has decided to provide Rs 205 crore as power subsidy which will benefit only those consumers whose monthly electricity consumption does not cross 200 units.

“We have made an allotment of Rs 205 crore for power subsidy. It will benefit the consumers whose consumption does not exceed 150 units during non-peak demand months and 200 units during the peak demand months,” Walia told PTI.

Though Walia did not directly say tariffs for other segments will increase, according to sources electricity bills for other segments may see an increase of 10 per cent because of the government’s decision to continue with the subsidy to one particular section only.

Under the subsidy scheme, a reduction of 25 paise per unit was given to those consumers whose consumption was up to 200 units, 35 paise per unit for consumption between 201 and 400 units and 55 paise per unit for consumption above 400 units.
