The demolition squad of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday continued with its drive against illegal construction in DDA flats.

On Friday, the civic agency intensified its drive and demolished illegally constructed portions in eight properties, including five flats of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
Demolitions were carried out in Kalkaji by the Central zone's building department. According to the civic agency, they mainly demolished illegal portions on the first and third floors of the flats.
"We have a policy in relation to DDA flats. According to the policy, the owners of DDA flats can carry out additions and alterations or get the existing excess permissible construction in their flats regularised.
But they are required to obtain prior permission which these owners failed to get," said a senior MCD official.
Several flat owners had illegally covered their courtyards or balconies in violation of the MCD's policy. "We have been advising people who want to buy properties in the city that before entering into any deal with any builder or seller, they should check the details of illegally constructed properties which are available on our website," added an official.
The civic agency's drive against illegal construction in DDA flats began last month. Then, it had taken action against several flat owners of Sarita Vihar and even demolished illegal portions of their properties.
