Dhananjay Singh unfazed at being named in another case

The recovery of the brutalised body of his 35-year-old maid tucked below two bloodied mattresses at his official residence didn’t seem to faze BSP Lok Sabha MP Dhananjay Singh, according to police officials present during his questioning on Wednesday.

Singh apparently told the investigators that he was ‘fine with being named in another case what with so many others he was being investigated for and the things that he had witnessed in his political career’.

According to the statement of his 17-year-old domestic help, the MP was not only privy to the torture that his wife used to infilct upon them, but he would join her in addition to warning them against ‘sloppy work’.

“Whenever the MP (Dhanajay) used to come home, we used to tell him about how his wife tortures us,” the minor claimed in his statement.

“On our complaints, which we used to make to him in private, he used to say if we kept making mistakes, we would naturally get punished.”

“He said many servants before us had worked in his house and had been subjected to assault when they made mistakes; we were no special,” the statement goes on to say.

The minor stated that the MP’s wife had got an iron grille installed on the terrace of the house 1 which was always kept locked — to dissuade them from trying to get in touch with ‘outsiders’.

She allegedly used to give her employees deadlines for household chores. When these were not met, the boy said, she would make them starve during the day and then throw their food in the dustbin in front of their eyes.

Complaints to the MP, who had sought divorce from his wife on the ground that she was of ‘an abnormal psychiatric state’, were more of a vicious circle than respite.

“Even Dhananjay had beaten us on two occasions at the behest of his wife with his shoes. When he was away, she used to torture us by asking us to talk to him over the phone,” the boy has claimed in his statement.
